“Skill India” campaign was launched by the Hon’ Prime Minister of India Shri. Narendra Modi, with an aim to train over 40 crore people in different skills. It is expected that the hydrocarbon sector would generate one lakh technical jobs over next five years.To meet this requirement, PSUs under Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gases are Developing Skill Development Institutes in various states.MoP & NG has formed a Steering Committee consisting of Director (HR) s of Oil Public Sector Undertakings for setting up Skill Development Institutes in various parts of the country. Each major Oil & Gas PSU (GAIL, IOCL, ONGC, BPCL, HPCL and OIL) has to set up Skill Development Institute (SDI) in different states. Accordingly, a state of the art Skill Development Institute is planned in Uttar Pradesh. It’s expected to operational by 2017-18. Meanwhile, the temporary campus of SDI Raebareli is coming up inside the premises of M/s ITI Limited, Doorbhash Nagar in Raebareli. The SDI Raebareli will offer certification courses in three trades such as Pipe Fitter – City Gas Distribution (Duration: 3 Months), Pipe Fitter – Oil & Gas (Duration: 6 Months) and Instrumentation Technician (Duration: 6 Months). The courses are aligned to National Skills Qualification Framework ( NSQF) of the central government and approval from sector skill councils under National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC)is in the process. This SDI will have an intake capacity of 30 students in each trade totaling to 90 students for three trades. The eligibility criteria are 10th pass and maximum age is 25 years. The course will be residential with separate hostel facility for boys and girls.
